About the Voter Information Portal

Find Accurate and Truthful Information about the Candidates and Issues upon which you will vote.

Not Yet Operating:

This Voter Information Portal is not yet operating and is in development. We need to build and populate the database. This portal should be completed and ready for use by the end of August 2016, in time to provide accurate information for the 2016 election.

The Way this will Work:

Voter Enters their Zip Code:

The voter will be presented with a form allowing them to enter their Zip code. From this Zip code, the system will be able to determine their State, County and City.

Their specific Sample Ballot will be displayed:

A Sample Ballot will be displayed which will be organized exactly like the ballot the voter will see when they go to their polling place to vote. It will include:

  • National Candidates;
  • State Candidates;
  • State Ballot Measures and Propositions;
  • Local Candidates;
  • Local Ballot Measures;
  • Judges.

Drill Down for More Information on Candidates:

For each candidate the voter will be able to drill down and get more information. This information will include:

  • Candidates statement of values;
  • Candidates statement of goals;
  • Candidates statement of short and long term actions to be taken;
  • Candidates History;
  • Candidates Voting Record;
  • Candidates statement for each vote explaining why he/she voted that way;
  • Candidates financial disclosure.

Drill Down for More Information on Issues:

For each issue (Ballot Measure, Proposition, etc.) the voter will be able to drill down and get more information. This information will include:

  • Summary of the proposed law;
  • Benefits/drawbacks of the law;
  • Financial Impact;
  • Statements from Proponents/Opponents;
  • Drill Down into the text of the law
    • Summarize the entire proposed law;
    • Summarize each section;
    • Summarize each sub-section;
    • Summarize each paragraph;
    • Provide the actual text of the law to verify the paragraph summary;
  • Provide the complete text of the law without summaries.
  • -- What else would you like to see? --

Drill Down for More Information on Judges:

For each candidate for judge the voter will be able to drill down and get more information. This information will include:

  • Judges statement of values;
  • Judges statement of goals;
  • Judges statement of short and long term actions to be taken;
  • Judges History;
  • Judges Record;
  • Judges statement regarding complicated decisions;

Other items to be considered:

Should we allow the Voter to print his Ballot?

It might be nice to allow the voter to decide how he/she wants to vote, then print their sample ballot to be used when they go to vote. This may be a reasonable option.

Should we allow Voters to save their selections?

If might be nice to allow the voter to save their selections so they may return and continue the process another day. This would require the system store the voters selections in the system. Might some government or other organization subpena that information? Could we be forced to provide that confidential voter information to someone? If we don't have it, we can't provide it. We would need to be sure we could not be compelled to violate the voters privacy. Thoughts anyone?
