Why Truth for Voters is Important

To Overcome Deception in Politics

An Easy to Use Tool to Become Better Informed

Truth For Voters (.org) will use technology and committed people to present the facts regarding Candidates, Issues and Judges via the easy to use Voter Information Portal. By providing an easy to use tool, more voters will make the effort to become better informed. And if more voters are better informed about the facts, they will be less effected by deceptive advertisements, and make better decisions regarding their personal opinion and vision for the future of America.

A Conversation Between a Liberal and a Conservative

Two friends, one with liberal political leanings, and the other more conservative, were discussing the new health care legislation. One said "it doesn't do ...", and the other said "but it does do ...". Both thought they were well informed and knew that portion of the proposed new law. But their discussion was not about what was best for America, but rather the content of the proposed new law. Neither of them knew the facts of the proposed new law. By referring to Truth For Voters (.org) section Direction For America, they would have been able to learn the facts of the proposed new law, so that they then could have then discussed the substance of that proposed legislation, and what was best for America. We need to debate important issues, and we need to start with the facts. Truth For Voters (.org) will help to present those facts in a clear, honest and credible fashion.

Prop 16 in California

Eight or ten years ago there was a proposition in California we will call 'Prop 16' (although it might have been a different number). Many television ads were run simply stating "California is 45th in computer education, vote yes on Prop 16." Being a computer guy, and an educator, I thought "Great, sounds like a good proposition". Then I read the text of the proposition; it didn't buy one computer; didn't pay for one hour of teacher time; and didn't buy one book. It was a bond issue to build new classrooms. The only thing it had to do with computers was if a new classroom was being constructed, the contractor should buy a $100 spool of computer network cable and run it on the building frame before they attached the sheet rock walls. Basically proposition 16 had nothing to do with computer education. Now maybe a bond issue for new classrooms was a good idea, but then the advertizement should have said, "we need new classrooms, vote yes on 16". I consider myself a fairly informed voter, and I would not have known of this deception unless I read the text of the proposition. I realized we need an easy source of credible information, because we can't trust advertisements. Thus was born the idea of Truth For Voters (.org).

Do we really research Judges?

I consider myself a fairly informed voter. But by the time I have researched the Candidates for office and the Issues, I'm tired, and I don't have an easy source to research Judges. I do not feel I have ever been properly informed regarding my vote on Judges, I am ashamed to say. We need an easy, credible source of information regarding judges so we can make an informed decision of which judges represent our desires for our judicial system, and which one's do not. Judges are incredibly important, and probably receive the least amount of public scrutiny. Truth For Voters (.org) hopes to change that.

How Important is Money in Politics?

None of us want our representatives to sell their vote to special interests. But the reality is they need money to run a successful campaign. What if there was an easy way for each of us to determine if our elected representative was really representing our interests or not. What if our source of accurate information regarding our representative was not effected my campaign contributions or partizan politics? Would we not be able to elect people who better represented our wishes? Would they not be more able to win, even if they did not have huge campaign contributions? Might this result in the high dollar lobbyists having less influence on our representatives vote, and we, the people having more influence on that vote? Isn't it time for Truth For Voters (.org)?
